Beyond the Basics: Introduction to Two-Color Stranded Knitting - Saturday

Ready to add patterns to your projects? This fast-paced, 3-hour workshop is the perfect next step for knitters ready to move from single-color projects to the exciting world of stranded colorwork (often called Fair Isle).
You will begin a cozy, winter-themed tube scarf that is worked seamlessly in the round. We will focus on the fundamental skills needed to successfully work with two colors in a single round, setting you up to tackle hats, sweaters, and mittens!
Skills Required (Advanced Beginner)
-
Knitting in the Round: Must be proficient and comfortable with joining and working stockinette stitch on circular needles (or DPNs).
-
Basic Stitches: Comfortable with the knit stitch (K).
-
Pattern Reading: Ability to follow basic written instructions.
What You Will Learn in 3 Hours
-
Holding Two Yarns: Discover different methods for holding two contrasting colors and find the style that works best for you (e.g., in one hand, or one in each hand).
-
Reading a Colorwork Chart: Learn to follow a simple chart to create a repeating winter pattern (like snowflakes, dots, or small peaks).
-
The Power of Floats: Understand what floats are (the yarn carried across the back of the work) and, most importantly, how to maintain even tension to prevent puckering.
-
Color Dominance: Learn the simple trick to make your pattern color pop against the background.
-
Seamless Color Change: Review the technique for a clean transition when changing colors at the start of a new round.
